WIl my cake fail if i use fat that is out of date?

Trust your eyes and nose. If it looks and smells OK it's not gone off. If it goes into the cake it is likely that the cooking will sterilise it. Again, if the resulting cake looks and smells OK it should be fine. Any doubt at any stage - bin it.
